Custom PC Build Log (all revisions)

The first revision of the PC was very simple. It was made to simply be able to play audio tracks. While it did struggle it was able to do so but was not fast enough for the audio tracks desired.

  • CPU: Intel i7 7700k OC to 5Ghz
  • GPU: ASUS Strix GTX 1080
  • RAM: Corsair White LED 3600Mhz 4x8GB
  • Motherboard: ASUS Maximus IX Hero
  • PSU: Corsair RM850i PSU
  • SSD: 2x Samsung 960 PRO Sata SSD RAID 0
  • Cooling: Corsair H115i

This PC was not fast enough so we did a complete overhaul. Looking at other options from AMD and Intel we then decided on the newest i9 7980xe processor due to its larger L3 cache as well as higher clock speeds. We kept most of the hardware from the original system but changed out the motherboard and CPU. (no pictures looks pretty much the same)

  • CPU: Intel i9 7980XE OC to 4.2Ghz
  • GPU: ASUS Strix GTX 1080
  • RAM: Corsair White LED 3600Mhz 4x8GB
  • Motherboard: ASUS x299 Prime-A
  • PSU: Corsair RM850i PSU
  • SSD: 2x Samsung 960 PRO Sata SSD RAID 0
  • Cooling: Corsair H115i

While using the PC we wanted more performance as well as better cooling for the VRMs on the motherboards. We then purchased EK water blocks for the GPU and CPU so that we can push the CPU even further while not ruining acoustics. We were able to drop the speed of the fans as well as the D5 water cooling pump down to an inaudible level for the best listening experience possible. We also replaced the power supply for maximum headroom.
